Apparently, Johnny Manziel is still in the Cleveland Browns doghouse. The team announced that they will start second-year quarterback Austin Davis against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.
Manziel was benched one game after being given the starting job due to his behavior during the teams by week.
Josh McCown was put on the injured reserve list with a broken collarbone yesterday opening the door for Davis. McCown suffered a broken collarbone in Monday night’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
“Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night. He was prepared, played well and put us in position to win,” Browns head coach Mike Pettine said in a statement released by the team. “He’s been great in the quarterback room all season and he has earned the right to start on Sunday. We expect him to play well.”
Davis was 7-of-10 passing for 77 yards in relief of McCown including a game-tying touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin.
“It’s been a wild year,” Davis said.
