The team at NextEra NFL have organised the draft order based on the official 2013 NFL Draft order.
We have many changes in the 18th edition of the NextEra Mock Draft, with plenty of changes throughout.
This edition includes ratings from our new player evaluation system! Here’s the first pick…
1.
Kansas City Chiefs : Star Lotulelei, DT/ DE, Utah
NextEra RAP Rating - 107.2 (3-4 DE)
As you may have noticed we have had a new addition to our mock drafts, our new player evaluation system. For more information on what the numbers mean, click through to our system explanation page.
The Chiefs obviously need a QB, but does Andy Reid spend the 1st overall pick on one? Geno Smith is the only one really in the discussion at this point, but selecting him would be a significant risk. Smith is a poor man’s RG3 that has more bust potential than RG3 ever did.
If I was in KC’s shoes I would look to take a QB at the top of the 2nd round, where there could be some very nice value options including Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon and Tyler Wilson. So with a QB pencilled in at the top of round 2, what do they do with the 1st overall pick?
Obviously a trade down would be preferable, but that looks unlikely to happen.
So they turn their attentions to five guys in my estimation. Jarvis Jones, Star Lotelulei, Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and Manti Te’o. After a horror show for Manti Te’o and the Fighting Irish, Manti’s rating has taken a bit of a hit, knocking him out of the #1 spot, that he occupied last week.
Andy Reid has smartly decided to stay with the 3-4 Defense that has some good talent out there including Tamba Hali, Justin Houston, Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson and Brandon Flowers.
They really could use a defensive lineman like Star Lotulelei to shore up the front seven, but would they pick another one in the top five after Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson have failed to make an impact?
I think they are prepared to take one, the other two were drafted under a previous regime that shouldn’t bother Andy Reid much. In his days in Philly, Reid loved to draft defensive lineman in the first round such as Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham and enjoyed some success doing so.
Reid should love Lotulelei, who is certainly worthy of a top 3 pick in this draft.
